How Breath Shapes You

Simply put, breathwork is the practice of intentionally breathing in specific patterns and for certain durations to shift your mental, physical, or emotional state. It’s not just about taking deep breaths—it’s a tool that actively changes how your body and brain function in real time.

The Science Behind It

  1. It Talks to Your Nervous System
    • Fast, shallow breathing signals stress (fight-or-flight mode).
    • Slow, deep breathing signals safety (rest-and-digest mode).
    • Breathwork helps you shift into calm mode when you need it.
  2. It Balances Oxygen & Carbon Dioxide
    • Your breath controls the levels of these gases in your body.
    • The right balance = better focus, energy, and a more stable mood.
  3. It Impacts Your Heart & Brain
    • Slow, steady breathing improves heart rate variability (HRV), making you more resilient to stress.
    • It also increases oxygen flow to the brain, helping with clarity, focus, and decision-making.
  4. It Releases Feel-Good Chemicals
    • Certain breathwork techniques boost endorphins and serotonin, leaving you feeling more relaxed, clear-headed, and even happier.

The best part? Your breath is always with you. No fancy equipment, no waiting—just inhale, exhale, and shift your state.

The Bottom-Up Approach to Healing

My work is rooted in a bottom-up approach, meaning we start with the body to shift emotions. The goal isn’t to never feel sad, upset, or stressed—it’s to increase our capacity to experience life and hold these emotions without becoming overwhelmed.

For a long time, healing has focused on a top-down approach, like talk therapy, which is valuable but often misses the body’s role in processing emotions. Modern science confirms that the body holds onto memory and emotion. You can’t think your way out of fight-or-flight mode—you have to help your body feel safe first.

That’s where breathwork and somatics come in. By guiding your body to release stored energy, you complete the stress response cycle, allowing you to think and act from a more aligned and calm place.

This work is powerful, simple, and accessible to everyone. And I can’t wait to share more with you.

Using a bottom-up approach, work with your body—not against it—to release stress, process emotions, and create lasting change. When you feel safe in your body, you can step fully into who you are.
